I was born in the coastal town of Irvine Ayrshire SW Scotland on 26 Nov 1953 to parents from farming and mining backgrounds. I lived on a farm in my early years and had a natural ability to play piano from a very early age. I then started piano lessons
at the age of 7. Early influences were the Beatles, Stones, Stax, Atlantic and Tamla Motown.
Pirate radio - I could see the Radio Scotland ship from my bedroom window - opened everything up by playing all the
great new British and American music of the mid-sixties such as the Beach Boys, Byrds, Small Faces and Four Tops.
From age 11 I played in pop bands with guys from school. At the age of 15, I played in the school rock band TIMOR MORTIS
playing Deep Purple, Cream, Black Sabbath covers.
Next I formed a gigging band playing clubs, pubs and hotels. My mates and I would go and see concerts at the Glasgow Apollo – Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Traffic, the Who, etc.
Most Saturday lunchtimes, I used to go hear live jazz at Crazy Daisy in Sauchiehall Street and got free pie and peas.
I studied classical music at the ROYAL SCOTTISH ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND DRAMA in Glasgow from 1972–75 obtaining a D.R.S.A.M qualification.
I moved to London in 1977 and played with the NEW SEEKERS, TINA CHARLES and the house band at the Hammersmith Palais. Then I joined the
TOM ROBINSON BAND at the height of the punk explosion, touring the UK, US, Canada and Japan. I also recorded TRB TWO, and appeared on
TOP OF THE POPS.
After that I did loads of session work (Katrina and the Waves), TV work ( Boon), film soundtrack (Gregory’s Girl),
producing (Archie Bell and the Drells) and playing with many of the big function bands (Johnny Howard).
In the early 80’s I toured with the THREE DEGREES, NOLANS, and DRIFTERS travelling to the Far East, Middle East and touring the UK/Ireland.
Next came my 2 albums and a tour of Germany with German rock star WESTERNHAGEN.
In the mid 80’s I formed and composed all the music for my band the KILLER B’s, a rock/jazz/fusion outfit, touring the UK and doubling
as backing group for PERCY SLEDGE, DEL SHANNON and the CHI-LITES.
In 1988, I did a 6-week stint singing/playing at the Piano Bar in LA MANGA CLUB golf resort, Spain, before being asked to join CLANNAD.
I then recorded several albums with Clannad - Past Present, Anam, Banba, Lore, Live In Concert, Landmarks (2 of them Grammy-award winners) - appearing with the band on the Jay Leno Show and Later with Jools Holland.
I have done several world tours with the band (Europe / Australasia / North America) and still perform with them when they go on tour.

In OCTOBER I will be doing an AUTUMN UK Tour with the HOLLIES, followed by a MOYA BRENNAN GERMAN Tour in December and a HOLLIES NEW ZEALAND Tour in late January.
My musical experience and tastes are extremely broad and are reflected in my solo live shows where I cover artistes from Sinatra to Green Day,
Robbie Williams, Abba, Oasis, Van Morrison, Take That, the Kinks, George Benson and every style throughout the decades.
I play for every occasion from CORPORATE EVENTS to WEDDINGS to PRIVATE PARTIES. There is no need to book a DJ
or any other musicians as I provide the complete package – LIVE MUSIC, DISCO, SOLO PIANO with a powerful Sound and Lighting Rig
and a huge repertoire of songs.
